BUZZ AROUND TOWN:

There's a new video production house in town and it's already making a mark.  That would be Turner-Hader Entertainment, owned by Mark Turner with Matt and Art Hader.   Reason we bring it up is because the company made a commotion Tuesday in Over-the-Rhine's Washington Park.  Seems local rap artist P.C. (Pretty Cool is the full name) and a cast of five principals and a three-member combo were shooting the video to go with P.C.'s "Make it Happen" (Boyd Records), a single dedicated to the memory of homeless advocate Buddy Gray.

The whole troupe -- lights, camera, action, the works -- hit the park Tuesday for a shoot that used neighborhood folk as well as professional actors.  The video and P.C.'s Pull Up CD should be out in mid-May.

STRUGGLE'S RAP IS RIDING HIGH

Know who needs a round of applause this morning? Struggle.  As well as Cincinnati's Boyd Records, a new outfit run by Robert Boyd.

Rapper Mr. Struggle is riding plenty high with his "You Played Yourself" single.  So high that Run D.M.C. asked him to open a show for them.  He did in November at Harpo's in Detroit.   That's not all: He has a CD due next summer.  But first, he and Boy colleagues will tour:  They are in the throes of setting up a college campus tour which, Boyd hopes, will take them  to every black college in the country.  They'll do a Cincinnati date, but it's not firm.

Boyd, meanwhile, is in the final stages of a compilation Cd names for Struggle's single. It will include Pretty Cool, RB, Mr. Nastee Nass and Boyd.

Look for it in early '98.

SCENE & HEARD -- LOCAL RELEASES

This Thurs., May 29 marked the release of two new albums on Boyd Records, Pretty Cool's Pull Up and Northern Exposure by Mr. Nastee Nass.  You can find them in stores or order them through the Boyd Records web site at www.boydrec.com.   As you might recall, Pretty Cool shot a video here in town April 8 for "Make It Happen," a single off the new album written in memory of homeless advocate Buddy Gray.  With half the profits from the sales of Pull Up going to the Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless, it would indeed be a good thing for you to buy it.   for more info on these or other releases, check out the web site or call the label's Detroit office at 313-340-0422.
